The learning never stops!! Some may choose to differ, although I am of the understanding that even if you have mastered something, you still need to learn how to take it to the next level. Let's take the English alphabet for example. We start from A-Z, you master it, then what, do you stop or do you up your game by learning more?
Growth is a process and it starts by learning. The past three months at Yolo have been a great experience. There are things I already knew and I had to now put into practice and there are things I had to unlearn to relearn well.
1.Learning the Product - Being from a corporate background, I always knew that knowing the product well was a priority. Therefore I made it a point to learn everything about the product everyday. Reading through tlow.in surfing the internet for pictures, videos and write ups, referring to past travelers notes written in diaries, etc. I wanted to get my hands on everything I could possibly think of.
2. Generating leads - Just by reading and taking notes one cannot expand their knowledge. We learn better by interacting, by exchange of ideas and knowledge. That helped me understand the importance of generating leads. Interacting with the masses, how else would they even know what I know!!?
3. Researching and Developing - Researching about something or someone was my favorite pastime. Research for development was a whole new ball game. But how do you research and develop a system that is already so advanced? The past few months, I tried to grasp everything I could, then I started asking questions and realized the best things also need regular fixing, and there I was researching and working on development.
4. Time Management - Don't work as per time, manage it, let time work in your favor. In the bargain to learn quickly, I was struggling with managing my time in the initial stages. I did everything in parts and realized I left everything incomplete. I was doing too many things at the same time. Till I was asked to stop and make a time table, and add tasks I wanted to do in that particular time. To my surprise, I was learning, researching and developing in an efficient way.
5. Using Canva for creatives - After nine years of working on Excel, Word, Power point, everything that had numbers and calculating data at one point got boring. At Yolo, I was trained on how to use Canva. The illustrated explanation about anything I wanted to convey, just got me another kind of satisfaction
6.The Website - Being an unsophisticated tech person, my overall know how about websites, backlinks was very minimal. Since I joined Yolo, I have been a part of many meetings that did not cover my area of expertise, one of them was designing and developing the website. My colleagues leading the meet ensured we were all well informed on how things work and in the process taught me things I would have had to pay to learn.
7. How to write blogs - Do I love to write, I don't know yet, am I enjoying it, Yes! I had to do a little research of my own to understand how blogs are written. Also we have expert writers and editors at Yolo, who kept training and teaching me along the way.
8. A thing or two about GoPro and other gadgets - I love clicking pictures, editing them too but I would use a phone for that, I wouldn't even use a DSLR. At Yolo everybody can use the in house tools to make content. There are training manuals in place to help someone learn how to use the tools and what shots can be captured. Well, after seeing the pictures, the drone shots, there is that inner child in me now screaming to sign me up on the content team.
9. How to plan systematically - At Yolo, giving our traveller the best experience, is everyone's main goal. Putting up daily events for each guest , making sure everything is going smoothly needs a lot of thinking and planning. At Yolo, I learned the importance of systematically planning a plan and how to execute it.
10. Teamwork makes the dream work - Making holidays safe and affordable to everyone is a concept at Yolo and this could not have been an individual project. At Yolo, I learned how to use and enhance my skills, but how to also accept that someone can be better than me and to get to the ultimate goal it has to be a “We” and not an “I” project!
I am still a work in progress here at Yolo and everyday I am able to unfold a new talent only by being open to learning all that is in store for me.
